Lara Bay

Lara Bay is a wide curve of coarse, pale sand backed by scrub and low hills. There are no hotels or sunbed rentals, and access is along a rough unsurfaced track. The beach is part of the protected Akamas coast.

Loggerhead and green turtles nest along this coast through the summer. At the conservation station, nests are found, marked and caged against foxes. During the season, wire covers can be seen in the sand above the tide line. Away from the station, the beach remains undeveloped. Nesting begins around June, with hatchlings emerging from about August into October.

A 4x4 is needed for the long stretch of rough track, and most standard hire agreements do not cover that road. Several operators run organised day trips as an alternative.
