Avakas Gorge

The Department of Forests says the Avakas Gorge trail remains closed and dangerous until further notice.

Avakas Gorge was cut into the Akamas limestone by a stream. It narrows to a few metres between walls about 30 metres high.

The walking trail has been closed since December 2025 because of high water, slippery ground and the risk of falling rocks and earth. The Department of Forests notice from 6 May 2026 says it remains closed and dangerous until further notice.

Do not enter the gorge while the closure is in force. Before travelling, check the maintained Visit Cyprus trail page for any change.
